Owner's engineer: corridor studies for cycle lanes, including specialist reports, in the Canton of Bern
Canton of Bern, Switzerland
Under the Federal Cycle Route Act, the Swiss Cantons are required to set out the cycle route network in plans by the end of 2027.
In the Canton of Bern, around 30 corridor studies are required for the network of cycle lanes (the highest level in the hierarchy). These must be then translated into specific route alignments, and the necessary measures for their implementation must be defined. Due to the ambitious timetable, the corridors will be tackled in stages over the coming years, prioritised according to their importance. The cycle path network of cycle lanes will be finalised as part of the next revision of the Canton of Bern’s sectoral plan in 2027.
TBF is supporting the canton’s Non-Motorised Transport Unit in selecting the procurement procedures (cluster formation) and conducting the tenders for the corridor studies. As part of the preparation of the corridor studies, TBF is responsible for coordination to ensure compliance with the ambitious timetable, as well as for quality assurance. Furthermore, the results are reviewed for technical accuracy and formal correctness and completeness.
