Correction of Thunstrasse Muri
Bern, Switzerland
The 1.2-kilometre section of Thunstrasse between Egghölzli and Muri is now showing sizeable deficiencies: there is no continuous pavement and no cycle path markings, and the stretch has only one tram track, which limits the service on Line 6 (Fischermätteli to Worb).
This will soon change thanks to the ‘Thunstrasse Muri Correction’ project: the tram line will be expanded into a double track, the entire stretch of the street will be renewed, and the roadway will be upgraded and reapportioned to all road users. A clever mixed traffic concept together with traffic management will achieve a good balance between the expansion of the public transport system and pedestrian and cycle traffic without increasing the space needed. Five public clients are represented in this complex project.
