Rehbühlstrasse regeneration project in Uster
Uster, Switzerland
A traffic and maintenance concept was developed for Rehbühlstrasse in Uster. Its proximity to adjacent uses such as a school, a vocational training centre and the Rehbühl senior residence required stricter standards for pedestrian and peripheral accessibility, not least because it is also served by the VZO’s 818 bus route. Based on a site analysis, the project objectives were defined and design options evaluated in a variant study. The street space was designed to integrate into the nearby recreational area: paved surfaces have been reduced, green spaces created, and traffic-calming features incorporated, such as widened flower beds to delineate the parking spaces. A small plaza with benches near the ‘Buechhölzli’ forest enhances the overall quality of stay.
