District heating extension ewb
Bern, Switzerland
In Bern, ewb is building around 50 kilometres of new district heating pipes by 2035. Under the project title “District Heating Expansion” a low-temperature network is being created in the west and northeast. The Forsthaus energy centre has been optimized for energy supply, and a new wood-fired heating plant has been built in the southwest of the city. In addition, a geothermal heat storage facility is currently being planned in the west.
The basis for the expansion is provided by the City of Bern's Energy Master Plan. By 2035, more than 70% of Bern's entire heat supply is to be based on renewable energies. District heating plays a crucial role as part of this strategy.
In this project, TBF is responsible for overall project management and leads and coordinates the areas of network infrastructure, production infrastructure, development of operations and services, and networkshop.
TBF has been commissioned to plan the Rehhag wood-fired heating plant as part of a subproject and is conducting various feasibility studies as part of the district heating expansion project.
